Virtual server
Servers & storage
University Systems operates a Private Cloud based on VMware ESX. Departments may request virtual servers on this cloud to run their applications. If your group does not have a trained sysadmin, the VM must be maintained by the central sysadmins (see https://www.uvic.ca/systems/services/storagebackup/systemadmin/index.php).
Various versions of Linux and Microsoft Windows are supported. The base configuration provides 1 CPU and 4GB RAM, but customized servers are available if required.

What is the cost for this service?
A standard virtual machine costs $150/year.
When is this service available?
This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. You can be notified of service interruptions by subscribing to Informed.
Other information
Clients will be asked to sign a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with University Systems which further defines the terms and conditions of this service. See also: Why virtualize?
