Microsoft 365 is a cloud-based service that combines Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with cloud services like OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint Online. Our Microsoft 365 environment is always improving. UVic currently has access to:

  • Microsoft 365 Office (web and desktop versions)
  • Teams
  • Sharepoint Online
  • OneDrive
  • Power Automate
  • Power Apps
  • Power BI Pro (employees only)
  • M365 Email (students only)

We announce upcoming features on our Microsoft 365 blog.

How do I access this service?

As of April 2023 all current UVic students, faculty, and staff now have a Microsoft 365 account — no additional sign up necessary!

For people new to UVic, here's how you get your Microsoft 365 account:

  • Students: no sign up needed! Your M365 account is created when you register for courses.
  • Employees: no sign up needed! Your M365 account is created on your job start date.
  • Emeritus: no sign up needed! Your M365 account remains active when you become emeritus.
  • Affiliates: Login to Online Services with your UVic NetLink ID to sign up. It may take up to 48 hours for all Microsoft Teams features to populate on your account.

Staff and faculty: You will receive a default A1 license when your account is created. This means you can only use web apps unless you upgrade your license. The upgrade to use Microsoft 365 Office desktop apps is free. Just login to Online Services to upgrade your M365 license by choosing the Manage button under the Microsoft 365 service.

Once you have your account, you can login to the Microsoft 365 portal with your @uvic.ca email address and passphrase.
