UVic's

Framework for Relational Practice

UVic’s Framework for Relational Practice synthesizes our shared values and provides guidance on how to align our behaviors with our values to support greater teaching, learning, research and collaboration across the university.

The Framework also provides a roadmap for how to be accountable to our pledge to ʔetalnəw̓əl̓ | ÁTOL,NEUEL: respect the rights of one another and be in right relationship. Being in right relationship with one another helps us achieve our collective goals as members of the UVic community.

UVic’s Framework for Relational Practice provides guidance on how to be collegial and relational with one another at work – to strengthen our relationships with colleagues, and to be strong role models for our students.

Values

The 21 values in UVic's Framework for Relational Practice are grounded in the teachings shared by local Elders and community members to UVic in the Indigenous Plan, as well as UVic’s Strategic Plan.

Building a shared understanding of these values and practicing them in our everyday interactions will strengthen relationships, improve communication, and lead to more effective collaboration and coordination. Click on the word(s) of each value card to learn more.

The Framework is powerful because it centres relationships and gives us the foundational tools to support them. With shared expectations and a common language, we build trust, reduce friction, and create more equitable, connected work environments.
