Learning & teaching
Learning and Teaching Innovation (LTI) provides teaching and pedagogy support for all instructors at UVic, including faculty, librarians, sessionals, graduate students and teaching assistants:
- Instructional resources
- Increase accessibility
- Use of technologies and GenAI
- Develop a course outline
LTI also facilitates learning through training and communities of practice:
Technologies and GenAI
In their course outline, all instructors must indicate the learning and teaching technologies used in their course.
Instructors may not use Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools (GAITs) to grade students' work or to determine whether a student has violated UVic's Academic Integrity Policy.
LTI provides resources on available teaching and learning technologies and their appropriate use, including GenAI.
Accessible learning
The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) works with faculty and students to promote educational accessibility for students with disabilities and chronic health conditions.
LTI provides resources for instructors to incorporate accessibility practices into their teaching:
Academic skills
The Academic Skills Centre (ASC) helps your students develop academic communication skills. Their methods include tutoring (face-to-face and online), workshops and extended support (learning plans). Their staff may also be able to provide in-class visits and tailored workshops.
Academic integrity
Instructors should familiarize themeselves with UVic's Academic Integrity Policy, available in the Academic Calendar (updated September 2026): Undergraduate and Graduate.
Instructors may not use GenAI tools (GAITs) to grade students' work or to determine whether a student has violated the Academic Integrity Policy.
Math & stats assistance
The Math and Stats Assistance Centre is a friendly space for your students to get help on 100/200 level math and stats courses from an on-site teaching assistant. See their schedule and locations.
Community-engaged learning
As an instructor, you can develop opportunities for students to connect their learning outcomes with community initiatives through community-engaged learning. We can guide you through the process to set up these relationships.
Library supports
As a faculty member, the library supports your research and teaching. Each department has a subject librarian who provides subject and course specific instruction. They can also create library research assignments for your class or assist you with your own research.
