Professional development complements academic and interdisciplinary knowledge. There are many opportunities for graduate students to engage in professional development at UVic.

TA training & support

Learning and Teaching Innovation (LTI) offers professional development programs for teaching assistants and graduate students. These programs come in the form of workshops and online training modules. There are many training options that will prepare you to be a future faculty member.

Coastal Climate Solutions Leaders (CCSL)

The NSERC CREATE training program brings together graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from science, engineering, social sciences, public policy, business and more. The program offers hands-on training in climate leadership through classes, internships, seminars, and professional skills training.

UVic Sustainability Scholars

The UVic Sustainability Scholars program is raising the bar on sustainability. These paid internships offer graduate students from any discipline the opportunity to advance applied sustainability research projects for community, government, Indigenous, and not-for-profit partners.

UVic Teach Anywhere

The UVic Teach Anywhere site gives practical strategies for teaching online and relevant educational technology tools.  It provides guidance on five key areas:

  • How to decide on a mode of delivery
  • What technologies are available
  • Translate assessment & activities
  • Create online lectures & content
  • How to facilitate an online course

The Academic Skills Centre offers one-on-one tutoring and workshops to help you become a more effective and efficient writer.

We're located on the main floor of the McPherson Library/Mearns Centre, at the end of the Learning Commons hallway.

Research to Real-Word Application

The Research to Real-Word Application program is six sessions of workshops and expert advice that will get you to think about the business side of your research. The main goal is to help you create a clear, powerful pitch to share your ideas with people who can support your goals.
