Distance students
At UVic, we have many supports and resources in place for distance students.
Distance programs
UVic distance students study many of the same course topics and materials as on-campus students. In distance courses, you'll work with instructors and classmates through online discussions and real-time web conferencing.

Learning technologies
If you’re new to online or blended learning, you should check out our UVic LEARN resources.
We also have two interactive guides to help you prepare for online learning at UVic. Get comfortable with what to expect, get started with online tools you might need and know where to find help.
Library services
Distance Learning and Research helps distance students find the information they need for their course work. As a distance education student, you’ll use these pages to search the library databases off campus.
You can request:
- any physical material in the library, which will be sent to your home
- articles from journals, magazines or newspapers in our collections
- articles or books not held in our collection
- help choosing an appropriate search strategy, database or research assistance
Contact us to request the books or articles you need or for research help.
Writing & academic support
If you can’t make it to campus for an appointment, the Academic Skills Centre can help. The centre gives online tutoring on academic writing and communication skill development. You'll receive personalized feedback on your communication skills from our online tutors.
Continuing Studies
The Division of Continuing Studies provides adult and continuing education programming alongside UVic faculties and community partners. You can take online courses in many different subjects.
