End-of-year message from the provost

December 18, 2024

Dear colleagues,

As we wrap up another successful term, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for the dedication, innovation, and passion you bring to your teaching, research, and service. This year has stretched and challenged us and has been a testament to our shared commitment to advancing our academic and research objectives and bringing to life our strategic plans.

Together, we have celebrated numerous milestones. The Faculty of Health, the School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures, and the government-funded program expansions in engineering and computer science have been transformational changes for our university, and only possible thanks to the hard work, trust and support of colleagues working together across campus.

Equally, I want to recognize the ongoing efforts that often go unheralded but are at the heart of our university’s success: your teaching, mentorship and guidance of a diverse community of 22,000 undergraduate and graduate students. No matter the challenges we face, we continue to deliver high-quality and research-enriched programming enhanced by experiential learning. These contributions continue to attract students and scholars to our university.

As we approach the holiday break, I encourage you to take time to rest, reflect, and recharge.  Whether that means spending time with loved ones, enjoying a change of pace, connecting with the lands and waters around us or taking pride in your personal or professional accomplishments of the past year, I hope the season offers you the opportunity to replenish your heart and mind for the year ahead.

I look forward to reconvening our academic community in January as we, together, build on our successes and lean into our challenges and opportunities. Until then, please accept my warmest wishes for a joyful and peaceful holiday season.
