Governance and accountability

AVP Academic Programs

The Associate Vice-President Academic Programs team, within the VPAC office, provides advice on program proposal development, recommended consultation, governance approval pathways, and timelines. Our goal is to make our approval process as streamlined as possible while fulfilling the requirements of Senate, Board of Governors and Ministry.

Faculties and departments seeking to create, revise or discontinue a program are encouraged to contact the Academic Programs team early via apasst@uvic.ca to seek guidance in the required processes. We also support the creation of micro-credentials. Graduate program proposals are coordinated in collaboration with the Faculty of Graduate Studies at fgscirc@uvic.ca.

The team leads the external review process, conducted as outlined in policy AC1145: External Reviews of Academic Units, to ensure the university offers and maintains high-quality educational offerings.

Senate Committee on Planning

The Senate Committee on Planning submits recommendations to Senate concerning proposals for the creation, revision or discontinuation of programs, faculties, schools, departments, centres and institutes, and major changes to existing programs. Chaired by the AVP Academic Programs, the Committee includes representation from all academic Faculties.

The Committee meeting and submission dates includes deadlines for academic units seeking to create, revise or discontinue a program.

Annual reports
