  • The Faculty of Law and the School of Public Administration will consult with each other to determine which successful applicants will be admitted to the double degree program.

Program requirements

The JD + MPA double degree program can be completed in 4 years instead of the 5 years it would take if the degrees were pursued consecutively.

  • The first year of the program will be devoted entirely to the first-year law curriculum.
  • The second year of the program will be devoted to completion of Term 1 of the MPA program and subsequently a combination of law and public administration courses (normally for a total of 7.5 to 8.5 units of courses per term).
  • The remainder of the program will be devoted to the completion of all other Faculty of Law and School of Public Administration course requirements.
  • Students in the program must complete, after first-year law, 29 units of law courses or Faculty of Law approved courses, including the following:
    • 3 units of public administration courses in lieu of the Faculty of Law's 3-unit, non-law course option in other faculties; and
    • ADMN 598 or ADMIN 599 in lieu of 3 units of LAW 399.

Students enrolled in the JD + MPA double degree program are subject to Faculty of Law regulations (modified where necessary) in regard to their JD course requirements. Grade point averages for the purposes of awarding Faculty of Law prizes and scholarships will be calculated only on Faculty of Law courses.

You can also view the program requirements in the undergraduate calendar.

Tuition

JD + MPA double degree program students are required to pay the tuition for the full MPA program over a course of installments. They will also pay the applicable Faculty of Law tuition when taking law courses.
