International students

We welcome students from all over the world. International students currently make up more than a fifth of our graduate student community.

English language proficiency

All applicants to UVic, regardless of country of origin or citizenship, must meet our English language requirements.

Application deadlines

Apply for admission well before the deadline set by your department. Applying to UVic early gives you time to apply for immigration documents. Find the deadlines for your program on our individual program pages.

Funding opportunities

We offer a number of grants and awards to international students who are coming to UVic for a graduate degree.

Minimum academic requirements

We require a minimum grade average to admit you to a graduate program. Individual programs may require a higher grade average.

Study permits

You need to get the correct immigration documents to study in Canada from Immigration and Refugee, Citizenship Canada. Once you're admitted, a UVic immigration specialist can help you with this process.

Co-op program

UVic’s co-op program offers many opportunities for international students. You’ll connect with employers and gain culturally relevant work experience.

To take part in this program you must be admitted to a co-op program and have a co-op work permit. You can apply for a co-op work permit at the same time you apply for a study permit.

International resources

We want to support our international graduate students as much as possible during their time at UVic. There are many services and resources available to you.

Living in Canada

Whether you’re studying here or visiting UVic from another institution, the International Centre for Students is here to help. We provide support before you arrive, settlement services when you get here and other non-academic assistance.
