Global engagement
The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) develops and promotes global partnerships that advance UVic's strategic goals for internationalization, which includes:
- Providing support to UVic faculty and staff in furthering their international activities
- Coordinating international partnerships, projects and programs that enhance UVic's diverse intercultural and global environment
- Organizing and hosting international delegations
Global Engagement Strategy
The Office of Global Engagement has the mandate to support the implementation of the University´s Global Engagement Strategy 2023-2028, which highlights the priorities for the next 5 years to become a truly global institution.

September highlights
Royal Thai Ambassador Visits UVic
On September 2, OGE welcomed Thailand’s Ambassador to Canada, Mr. Darm Boontham, for a courtesy visit with senior university leadership. The visit highlighted UVic’s partnerships and engagement in Thailand and provided an opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and explore future collaboration. Building on connections established during a previous visit by Thailand’s Consul General, the meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to international engagement.
Delegation from Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education
On September 9, UVic welcomed a delegation from the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education to learn about study opportunities for Japanese students. Discussions highlighted UVic’s academic programs, admission pathways, student support services, and international student experience, helping strengthen educational connections between UVic and Japan.
GAC Scholarship Student Meet & Greet and IMAX Outing
To support student connection and community building, The Office of Global Engagement hosted a Meet & Greet for Global Affairs Canada scholarship recipients on September 10. The office also organized a group outing to the Royal BC Museum IMAX Theatre to watch Running Wild on September 22, bringing students together in a relaxed setting and fostering a stronger sense of belonging at UVic.
Maps and the Emergence of the Filipino Nation
The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver, in collaboration with Global Engagement and Pacific and Asian Studies, organized a special lecture on September 24 by Dr. Ambeth Ocampo from Ateneo de Manila University. This special lecture was presented in observance of Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) and in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award.
OGE launches Indo-Pacific regional spotlight
This fall, the Office of Global Engagement (OGE) shines a spotlight on the Indo-Pacific region by highlighting a selection of events taking place across campus. Organized independently by different faculties, units, and campus partners, these events offer opportunities to explore the region from a range of perspectives and disciplines.
