Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science

UVic's Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) brings together students and researchers from around the world to tackle society's most pressing challenges — from clean energy and sustainable aviation to AI, biomedical innovation, and global public health.

Did you know?

ECS alumni live and work in 40+ countries, and the faculty's research funding network spans partners from the European Space Agency and EU Horizon Europe to the NIH and ArcticNet.

Global Research

Clean Water for the World: the PH2E Lab

Canada's first dedicated Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) research team, the Public Health & Environmental Engineering Lab (PH2E), is led by Professor Caetano Dorea in Civil Engineering. The team develops water and sanitation technologies designed for low-resource communities, and trains the next generation of researchers through the NSERC CREATE WASH Canada program. Students and faculty collaborate both locally in BC and in communities abroad, including field work in Colombia, bringing rigorous, socially just engineering to where it's needed most.

An international racing team

The UVic Formula Racing team is a student club that design, build and race an open-wheeled, formula-style race car every year. Mostly led by students at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, the club competes in Formula SAE Michigan and Formula SAE Electric at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan.
