Moving in

We can’t wait to see you in residence! Before you start packing, review these lists so you have everything you need before you arrive.

For a description of what is provided in your room, see Room types.

As of March 17, 2020, it is mandatory that anyone arriving in British Columbia from outside Canada must self-isolate, monitor for symptoms of Covid-19 for 14-days upon their arrival, complete and register a self-isolation plan and complete the federal ArriveCAN application. The health of travellers will be assessed upon arrival at the port of entry and you will be required to provide your detailed self-isolation plan either prior to or upon arrival.

Due to Public Health restrictions, we are not able to offer self-isolation accommodation in our residence buildings to students arriving from out-of-country. For a list of options for locations where you could self-isolate before you move into residence, please contact

When do I move in?

Move-in day is Sunday, September 5, 2021 -- and it's a big day at UVic. This year, our Move-in Day will look different to ensure we practice physical distancing. You'll receive detailed information from us via email before you get here, so stay tuned and check your email. You should also register for the New Student Welcome Orientation that takes place before classes start.

If you are registered in one of the orientation events that occur before September 5th, you can apply to arrive early.

If you are moving in for the first time in January, we'll email you with information and notice of a special mid-year orientation to get you connected to your communities. You should also register for Undergraduate Orientation that takes place before classes start.

Summer students can check in at the Residence Services Office after 3pm on the move-in date specified on your emailed room offer. If you don’t check-in on your move in date, your booking will be cancelled.

  • loss or damage to personal property
  • third party liability coverage for personal injury and property damage.

Insurance may be available as an extension of your family’s home insurance policy. Consult with your insurance agent to confirm that appropriate coverage is in place.

Or, you may wish to consider coverage from one of these insurance companies who offer insurance to students in residence:
