Advanced Practice Leadership (MN)
Our Advanced Practice Leadership (APL) program is a course-based and practice-oriented nursing degree option that will prepare you for a wide variety of roles.
You will become a leader in different spheres of influence, from client interactions to health policies and systems. You will gain practical experience in many settings including, but not limited to, acute care, community, long-term, government and primary care.
We offer either a capstone or research thesis that integrates theory into nursing practices.

Admission requirements
- Completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in nursing from an institution recognized by UVic with a minimum B+ (77%) average in the final two years of your degree
Prerequisite courses
- an upper level (300 or 400) undergraduate statistics course from a recognized post-secondary educational institute. Must have a final grade of B or higher
- an interactive Indigenous cultural safety course for health providers within 5 years of application (e.g., PHSA San'yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training – Core Health)
As part of your application, you must submit:
- A personal resumé including your education background, employment history, professional/academic affiliations and other achievements such as publications or awards.
- Verification of registration as an active practicing nurse.
- Two assessment reports: one from an academic referee and one from an employment referee
- We recommend that your referees attach a letter of reference in addition to the assessment report.
- If it has been more than five years since you last attended a post-secondary institution, we recommend that you include two assessment reports from current or former employers in place of academic referees.
- A personal statement (max. 500 words in essay style [narrative form]) that clearly addresses the attached guideline questions in detail
- Optional: Attach a short sample of your professional or academic writing to your personal statement if you wish, i.e. excerpt from journal article, formal report, etc.
Note: We strongly recommend you have the equivalent of a minimum of two years' full-time recent nursing practice as a registered nurse, preferably in your chosen area of concentration, before you apply.
