SharePoint Online is now available

Update

SharePoint Online is now available as a replacement for Connect (SharePoint 2013). Connect sites will no longer be created as we transition to the new service. To ease this transition, we’re rolling out SharePoint Online in phases.

You can learn more on the SharePoint Online roadmap page. We'll be updating the roadmap as more resources become available.

If you have any additional questions, please contact the Computer Help Desk, your Desktop Support Services analyst, or your IT support person.

April 6, 2023

University Systems is in the final stages of configuring Connect’s successor, SharePoint Online, and is aiming to make the platform available to campus for new sites by late April 2023. A new site creation process, training, and support documentation will be available shortly to help site owners transition to the new service.

Once SharePoint Online is available for use, new Connect sites will no longer be created. Existing Connect sites will remain available while migrations to SharePoint Online occur through fall 2023.

Several options for site migrations are being finalized. Content will not be migrated automatically. Site owners will have to initiate or request site migrations.  University Systems will be reaching out to site owners with a comprehensive list of sites once the full suite of migration options are available. Migration help will be provided where needed.

University Systems will be using a new SharePoint channel in the Teams and SharePoint team (previously the Teams Support team) to help communicate SharePoint Online training sessions and resources once they are available. Feel free to join the Teams and SharePoint team through this link to join the community for SharePoint Online at UVic.

Further communications will be sent to Connect site owners and the campus community once the new service and supporting documentation is available in April. In the meantime, please reach out to the Computer Help Desk, your Desktop Support Services analyst, or your IT support person if you have any questions.
