Pacific and Asian Studies

Bachelor of Arts (BA)

Why choose Pacific & Asian Studies at UVic?

Understand one of the world’s most influential regions while building language skills and global expertise. In this program, you’ll explore the histories, cultures and societies of East and Southeast Asia while developing proficiency in Chinese, Japanese or Indonesian/Malay. Through immersive learning experiences in Canada and abroad, you’ll gain the cultural insight and communication skills needed to work across cultures, industries and borders.

Customize your degree

Tailor your degree to match your interests and career goals. Choose one of three concentrations:

  • Experiential learning - Gain practical experience through research, study abroad and field programs.
  • Language and culture - Focus on cultural studies alongside language learning.
  • Language intensive - Develop advanced proficiency in Chinese, Japanese or Indonesian/Malay.

Each pathway allows you to combine regional knowledge with communication skills that are valuable in global careers.
