Work & learn

Get a head start on your career by finding a part-time or full-time job while you study.

  • Earn money and pay for your education
  • Reduce your debt, or avoid it entirely
  • Gain valuable work experience + discover what you love and what you’re great at

Co-op program

At UVic, co-operative education (co-op) lets you gain professional experience while you study. You’ll alternate terms in class with terms working in paid positions with real employers. Learn how to apply for jobs and succeed in the workplace.

Co-op is mandatory for a few programs, but in most cases it’s optional and you’ll apply at the start of your second year.

Interested in gaining work experience, but not sure if you can commit to several work terms? Check out our work experience program – a shorter, flexible alternative to traditional co-op.

Work study program

The work study program offers part-time jobs on campus that fit around your course schedule.

To be eligible you must:

  • be a full-time student (minimum 4.5 units for credit each term)
  • demonstrate financial need
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)

Career services

Explore career options while you study. Our workshops, programs and one-on-one support will help you identify your interests and apply for work that interests you.
