Physical & Health Education (Bachelor of Arts)
The Bachelor of Arts in Physical and Health Education Program prepares you to be a leader in the fields of physical education and health promotion. Through classroom instruction and activity-based learning, you will gain an understanding of human movement and how to teach physical and health education in a school environment.
Career options
The Physical And Health Education Program is 1 of 4 pathways that we offer towards becoming a school-based physical and health education teacher.
At the University of Victoria, you will take all the courses needed to meet the requirements of the physical and health education teaching area, plus electives that can be used to meet a second teaching area. (For more information about teachable areas, see the post-degree professional program website.)
If teaching is not your goal, the Physical and Health Education Program also prepares you for a career in coaching, fitness and sport leadership, and health and wellness education. You may also consider adding a Minor in Physical Education to your degree.
Co-op education
Want to get some hands-on experience before graduation? Physical and Health Education students can take part in co-operative education (usually 3 to 4 terms) or the work experience program (usually 1 or 2 terms) as part of their degree. You will gain hands-on skills and experience that help you better prepare for a future career.

Admissions
Please note that you cannot apply directly to the Physical and Health Education Program. You must first enrol in the Recreation and Health Education Program and then transfer to the Physical and Health Education Program during the first year.
Both programs share a common first-year curriculum, so transferring won't delay your graduation.
