Find a supervisor
To be accepted into our kinesiology and physical education graduate programs, you'll need a faculty member to agree to supervise you in your specific area of research. Students enrolled in the coaching studies program are assigned a supervisor.
When do I need to find a supervisor?
Prospective kinesiology and physical education students must find a potential supervisor when preparing to apply to UVic. When you apply:
- you must list a potential supervisor on your application
- this faculty member must agree to be your supervisor and recommend your admission
Coaching studies students do not need to find a supervisor to apply to the program. The cohort leader each year supervises all students' projects.
How do I find a supervisor?
Have a look at our faculty members and their research to find whose work aligns with your interests and goals. (You can also explore our many research labs.)
Then, contact the researcher(s) who you feel would be a good fit. This might feel intimidating, but don't be shy—our faculty want to hear from prospective students with similar interests! Introduce yourself, explain your interests and ask them if they are currently taking on new graduate students. If you do not receive a response, it may be because they are already at capacity.
Or, you can contact our graduate adviser who can help connect you with a potential supervisor.
