Lost & found

Many lost and found items are brought to Campus Security. Whenever possible, we’ll return items to their rightful owners.

View & claim items

You can view found items at the Campus Security office during our regular business hours.

Local lost and found boxes

Many offices and facilities across campus have lost and found boxes. We collect them and bring them to the central lost and found in the Campus Security building once a week. If we don’t have your lost item right away, you could try asking around at offices and info desks near where you’ve been working or studying—or just come back in a few days after we’ve done collection.

Unclaimed property

If we’ve held a lost and found item for over 30 days without it being claimed, we’ll donate, recycle or otherwise dispose of it.

  • Perishable articles will be disposed of daily in whatever manner is appropriate.
  • If the rightful property owner is not located within the 30 day retention period, property may be returned to a finder who has made that request. University employees aren’t eligible to claim unclaimed property.

Exceptions

Accepted, but not held for claim

  • We return library books and other identifiable UVic property to the appropriate department as soon as possible. The return will be noted in the Lost & Found ledger.
