Safety information
All Science students, staff and faculty are expected to prioritize the safety of themselves and others when undertaking laboratory or other activities. This includes preventatively seeking out information, training and advice and reporting safety concerns and incidents.
Awards
There are many talented and hardworking faculty and staff who help make UVic Science excel. Each year, we recognize a few exceptional faculty and staff members for their outstanding contributions in three categories:
Research services
Science Stores
Science Stores supports members of the Faculty of Science with the provision of research supplies and chemicals, as well as office supplies. Science Stores maintains an inventory of commonly used chemicals and minor equipment and materials, assists in placing special orders, and provides shipping and receiving services for hazardous or other research materials.
Machine Shop
The Machine Shop repairs and fabricates equipment for undergraduate labs and research groups within the Faculty of Science. Other non-Science departments at UVic may use the Machine Shop when capacity allows.
MSV John Strickland
Our marine research vessel, RV John Strickland, is used to support UVic Science research and teaching. The boat can be booked by groups both on and off campus.
Department-specific technical support
The Faculty of Science has a number of electronics shops that offer technical support to faculty, staff and students and maintain an inventory of components tailored to department needs. Technical support shops focus on the needs of a particular department, but can provide support to other Science departments and the broader university community as well.
Pricing: For Faculty of Science research activities, labour is charged at $30/hour and parts costs are recovered. For non-Faculty of Science units at UVic, labour is charged at $75/hour and parts costs are recovered.

There are many different research facilities available with the Faculty of Science and throughout UVic that are available to Faculty of Science researchers. Some facilities are operated by individual departments and may prioritize researchers from that department.
