Student life
Life as a UVic Science student is about more than just the academics! There are a number of different student organizations that cater to science students and provide opportunities to meet people in your program outside the classroom and have some fun.
Course unions
Course unions are student clubs that represent academic departments. Membership is open to undergraduate students registered in any class offered by the department. Course unions plan academic events and social activities related to their area of study.
Graduate student clubs
Several departments have student clubs specifically for graduate students. Other departments may have more informal groups; please check with your departmental office.
Other science clubs
Several other clubs exist on campus that are specifically geared towards supporting Science students.
- UVic Women in Science
- UVic Association for Women in Mathematics & Statistics
- AISES - Indigenous Students in STEM
Additional clubs exist that support interest and participation in various areas of science. Membership in these clubs is not limited to science students and they may not operate every year.
- Cicada UVic
- Surfrider UVic
- UVic Ecological Restoration Club
- UVic Fish and Game Club
- UVic Mycology Club
- UVic People of Neuroscience
- UVic Rockhoppers
Other opportunities
Opportunities to participate in faculty or department level governance may arise throughout the year. Student appointments to faculty-level committees are typically managed by the University of Victoria Students' Society (UVSS) and/or the Graduate Students' Society (GSS). For department-level opportunities, connect with the main office or course union for your department.
