The Machine Shop
The Science Machine Shop provides equipment design and manufacturing support for undergraduate labs and research groups within the Faculty of Science.
Services
The Machine Shop operates as a modern manufacturing environment, offering end-to-end support from initial consultation through to production, inspection, and delivery. Shop services and access are restricted to Faculty of Science activities; personal or private sector work is not permitted.
The Machine Shop can provide a variety of services:
- Consultation: Collaborate to define requirements and recommend solutions aligned with project timelines and budgets.
- Design: Provide CAD design services to develop concepts, verify fit and integration, and support cost estimation.
- Manufacturing: Use in-house capabilities such as CNC machining and 3D printing to produce production-ready components. Additional processes, including wire EDM, laser cutting and forming, waterjet cutting, coatings, welding and composites, are coordinated through on- and off-campus resources as required.
- Repair and re-work: Assess and repair high-value components or support time-sensitive needs with practical, efficient solutions.
- Additional Services: Support is available for high vacuum systems, equipment relocation and installation. Please inquire for further details.

Submit a job request
To request work from the Machine Shop, customers must submit a job request via the online job submission form. The shop supervisor will respond to the job request by email.
- customers are responsible for receiving approval from their supervisor prior to submitting a job request
- a FAST account number must accompany all job requests
