Areas of research focus

  • Genetic mechanisms of rediploidization in salmonids
  • Large scale genomics technologies
  • Fish  immune system systems
  • Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics
  • Diseases, particularly Sealice/Salmon genomic interactions

My interests lie in the fields of molecular biology, genetics and evolution of fish. Large multi-gene families and whole genome duplications from salmonid species are used to examine molecular mechanisms of change (gene conversion, duplication, deletion, mutation, etc.) as well as population genetic dynamics. Broad molecular evolutionary problems are examined using highly multidisciplinary laboratory and bioinformatic approaches.
