We offer specialized teaching support for teaching assistants at UVic.
TA orientation
If you are just starting out as a teaching assistant (TA), join our welcome day offered once a term. Secondly, explore common questions to consider at your first TA/supervisor meeting.
Primary responsibilities
Your TA role involves a defined scope of responsibilities across teaching, communication, course materials, and student support. To help you navigate these, we have put together guidelines on managing your time effectively so you can balance your duties and succeed in the role.
Teaching and learning support
We recommend booking a one-on-one consultation with our curriculum developers, educational technologists and learning designers. We offer support in:
- Classroom management
- Communicating with course instructor
- Course design
- Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in teaching
- GenAI use and academic integrity
- Grading and providing feedback to students
- Invigilation (in-person and/or online)
- Lesson planning/delivery (e.g., lab, tutorial)
- Support in accessible teaching and learning
- Teaching dossier development
- Using UVic’s educational technology ecosystem (e.g., Brightspace, Crowdmark, Echo360)
