Self-paced teaching modules

At every stage of your career, there are opportunities to strengthen your teaching. We offer the following self-paced modules through Brightspace, that can be taken alongside our teaching development program (LIFT) or as standalone offerings. 

Teaching-Stream Faculty Professional Development Fund

Our teaching-stream faculty learning and teaching development fund supports professional growth in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Funding can be used for activities such as conference attendance, research and scholarly presentations. Funding is for professional development activities occurring within 6 months before or 12 months after the application deadline.

Eligibility

  • must hold a regular appointment as Assistant, Associate or Teaching Professor at UVic (limited-term not eligible)
  • activities must support the scholarship of teaching and learning (e.g. conferences, courses, workshops)
  • must demonstrate a clear benefit to student learning

Selection criteria

Applications are assessed based on:

  • impact on student learning and teaching practice
  • contribution to scholarly development
  • alignment with the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • complete, eligible budget
  • priority given to applicants not funded in the past year and to virtual participation
  • proof of presentation/acceptance (required)
Incomplete or ineligible applications will not be reviewed.

Eligible expenses

  • registration or course fees
  • membership fees required for the event
  • materials (e.g., poster production)
  • travel and accommodation (standard rates)
  • meals (UVic per diem; no alcohol)

Ineligible expenses

  • travel within Greater Victoria or to UVic
  • tuition for credit courses
  • equipment or technology purchases

Additional notes

  • funding supports activities within 6 months before or 12 months after the deadline
  • if requesting in-person travel where a virtual option exists, provide a rationale
  • applicants are encouraged (but not required) to seek additional funding
Apply

Applications are due on March 31, 2027.

Documentation
Include supporting documentation (e.g. proof of conference acceptance or invitation).
Reimbursement
  • submit the post-activity report form
  • submit expenses in Emburse using the provided account number
  • reimbursement is processed after submission
Share outcomes

Recipients are encouraged to share their learning with colleagues (department, faculty or broader community).
