Highlights

- Founded in 1527, the Philipps-University of Marburg is one of the most historic German universities as it is the oldest remaining Protestant universities in Germany
- The university, with its 17,400 students is situated in a beautiful medieval town located halfway between Frankfurt and Kassel
- Marburg is molded by the university. The town's attractions include a castle, a 13th century church, narrow streets and many timber-framed houses
Accessibility
- The Servicestelle für behinderte Studierende (SBS) provides accessibility supports

- SBS also offers an additional orientation unit at the beginning of each semester for students with disabilities and chronic or mental illnesses.

There is an inclusive dormitory called “Konrad-Biesalski-Haus”, which brings students with and without disability together. All of the rooms contain accessible bathrooms and offer assistance for their everyday lives. The number of rooms available each semester is limited so inquire as soon as possible.
Study Options
Note: there are several study options available for exchange students at Marburg, which all differ slightly:
MIX - Marburg International Exchange
- Full-time, traditional exchange program where students pay tuition to UVic and can take a variety of courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences, earning up to 7.5 UVic units.
International Undergraduate Study Program (IUSP)
- Exchange style program offered as a part-time (4.5 UVic units) or full-time (slightly less than 7.5 UVic units) study option.
- Students pay UVic tuition as part of their exchange term but are responsible for an added fee, which includes accomodation, meal subsidy, two weekend trips, and a bus pass.
- To study part-time, students still pay the fixed fee and to study full-time, UVic students can add an additional course for an extra fee of €230.
Extra German language courses:
- A four-week intensive German class for exchange students is offered prior to the start of each semester.
- €300 participation fee (which includes tuition, materials, and one excursion).
- Regular German language classes are also available during the semester (once or twice a week) via the Language Center.
Intensive German Studies Program
- Not an exchange program and not eligible for credit at UVic.

Health Insurance, Visa, and Fees
Health Insurance:
- Health insurance covergage is required to be accepted into Marburg's exchange program.
- More information can be found in the exchange FAQ.
- The local immigration offices requires the mandatory purchase of German statutory health insurance (approx. 120 euro/month) in order to apply for a residence permit/visa extension.
Visa
- Exchange students are asked to check what kind of visa they need – either a student visa or a national visa for study purpose. Further information can be found here.
Fees:
- A semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) must be paid to Marburg before the start of the semester so that students can be enrolled. This covers contributions to social services and administration, as well as gives you access to public transport for 6 months.
- Cost is 320 euro/term for exchange students. Please refer to the exhcange FAQ for more info.
