Awards and honours

Awards for research achievement

UVic faculty members have received national and international recognition for their research achievements. Each honour we receive reflects both the quality of our people and our reputation as one of Canada’s leading research intensive universities. For a comprehensive list of award recipients, visit the UVic Honour Roll.

John Borrows is a 2017 Killam Prize winner. A Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Law, he discusses how Indigenous and Canadian common law differ and how the two legal traditions may be reconciled.

Anishinabe/Ojibway and a member of the Chippewa of the Nawash First Nation in Ontario, He is currently developing a joint degree in Indigenous Law and Canadian common law (JID) at UVic—the first in the world—which he sees as a way to create peace and restore relationships. One of the university’s strategic goals is to increase opportunities for our researchers to receive recognition for their outstanding work.

Our office provides support for nominating faculty and staff. We encourage faculty to consider nominating their colleagues for external honours and awards as well as UVic’s REACH research awards.
