Issue with Brightspace date and time display

September 01, 2026

Brightspace (D2L) has identified an issue affecting how recent British Columbia time zone changes are handled by Brightspace and some web browsers.

What has changed?

Quiz and assignment dates with a due and end date during the period previously affected by daylight saving time. For example November 8, 2026 at 11:59 PM, may now appear one hour later than instructors originally intended on the main Quiz/Assignment summary page. In some cases, an activity that is set to end at 11:59 PM may now appear as ending at 12:59 AM the following day.

Why is the issue occuring?

The issue is occurring because Brightspace’s servers have been updated with the new BC time zone information, but some Chromium-based browsers, including Chrome and Microsoft Edge, have not yet received the same update.

This can result in:

  • different times appearing on different Brightspace pages
  • different times being displayed depending on which browser is used
  • instructors seeing one time while students see another

Unfortunately, there is no process to automatically revert dates affected by this date/time handling change. This is an known issue that D2L Brightspace is actively tracking.

How to address the issue

To address this issue, please check any date-bound activity information in your Fall 2026 Brightspace page(s), such as Quizzes, Assignments, etc, to ensure that correct dates and times are displayed. If there is a discrepancy, use the Firefox browser to update the activity to the correct time.

We recommend using Firefox to set all date/time information until a Chromium patch has been released.
