Accessibility

  • The ECNU International Office coordinates accessibility supports for students.
  • There are limited housing options with accessibility supports available on campus at ECNU. Students with accessibility need are advised to contact the International Student Office in advance before applying for housing.
  • The ECNU Chinese Language Program has a fixed timetable for course instruction, equivalent to 6.0 UVic units per term. Taking more or less units in this program is not possible.

    • UVic exchange students participate in the ECNU Chinese Language Program, featuring: 
      • small class sizes of less than 25 students
      • 20 hours of class per week
      • face-to-face instruction by ECNU instructors
      • equal emphasis on listening, speaking, reading and writing

Credits

 Credits at ECNU:

  • Full-time option: set amount of courses equivalent to 6.0 UVic units 

Course Evaluations at UVic: 

  • Since the course offerings at ECNU's Chinese Language Program are set, students do not submit their ECNU courses for evaluation by UVic. 
  • More information on course equivalencies and credits will be provided by UVic's Department of Pacific and Asian Studies.

Housing

  • On-campus housing: Available 
    • Few on-campus housing spots are available, so it is recommended students apply as soon as they have been accepted by ECNU as an exchange student.
    • More information can be found on ECNU's accommodation website
  • Off-campus housing: May be available
    • Students will be in contact with ECNU's exchange team to discuss this option. 

Visa & Health Insurance

Visa:

  • After being accepted as an exchange student by ECNU, students will receive their Admission Notice and DQ form to apply for the X1 visa or X2 visa.

How to apply

  1. Students must first apply for this opportunity through UVic's Department of Pacific and Asian Studies (PAAS).
    • The deadline is once per year, in the fall term (mid- to late-November)
    • Questions about the PAAS application can be sent to chineseprogram@uvic.ca
  2. After being accepted by PAAS, students can then apply to the ICS Exchange Program.
      • Important note: for the ICS Exchange Program application, students do not need to submit a statement of intent or references. Instead, please upload a document that explains you've already submitted those documents with your PAAS application.
