UVic Wind Symphony and Orchestra Auditions

Current Students

For all current UVic students (music and non-music majors), woodwind and brass auditions typically take place on the last Monday and Tuesday afternoons in Week 13 of second semester for the following school year.

First year BMus students

Entering woodwind and brass music majors will be placed in large ensembles based on their School of Music entry audition.

Non-Majors

New UVic students not pursuing a major in music who play a woodwind and brass instrument can also audition through the following process. 

Audition Process:

1. Excerpts: Please email Claire Cacheux in the Music Office to request the excerpt(s) for your instrument.
2. Audition Sign-up: Please sign-up for an audition time by completing the form. The audition will typically last 5-8 mins.

Video Auditions:

If you missed the auditions or were unable to secure an audition time, you may submit a video audition by emailing the ensemble conductors below or contact them in early September for more information about any available places.

Current Students

Auditions for current students will be included as part of end-of-year juries

First year BMus students

Entering percussion music majors will be placed in large ensembles based on their School of Music entry audition.

Non-Majors

Please email the Music Office to request the percussion excerpt(s). You may submit a video audition at any time between April and September.

Current Students and Non-Majors

String auditions for all students (music and non-music majors) will be held on the first Friday of Week 1 in September. Please see the noticeboard in the School of Music basement at the beginning of Week 1 for more information.

Non-majors can email the Music Office to request the string excerpts

First year BMus students

Entering string music majors will be assigned an orchestra placement based on their School of Music entry audition.
