Our ensembles
We invite UVic students from all departments across campus to join our ensembles. Ensembles such as Vikes Band and the UVic Chorus do not require an audition.
UVIC SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Open to students from all UVic faculties and departments, the UVic Symphony Orchestra performs Classical repertoire as well as contemporary works, performing two concerts per semester. An audition is required.
UVIC WIND SYMPHONY
The UVic Wind Symphony is recognized as one of the premier performing wind ensembles in the Pacific Northwest. Repertoire includes large symphonic works and new music for the concert band including compositions by UVic School of Music students. Open to all UVic students, an audition is required.
UNIVERSITY CONCERT BAND
This large wind band performs classic and new works in various genres, from jazz to popular, and mainstream idioms. The ensemble is open to students from all UVic faculties and departments and no audition is required.
UVIC CHORUS
The UVic Chorus is comprised of up to 150 singers inlcuding music majors, non-music majors, and members of the Victoria community. The Chorus performs significant works from the Classical canon as well as contemporary and newly commissioned works. No audition required!
UVIC CHAMBER SINGERS
The Chamber Singers is an auditioned vocal ensemble performing repertoire ranging from Classical to contemporary. They have performed in 140 cities and 30 countries on 6 continents and have recorded for broadcast on the CBC.
UVIC VOCAL JAZZ
The UVic Vocal Jazz Ensemble has established a reputation for artistic excellence, stylistic flexibility, and performances of original and inspiring arrangements. The ensemble is well known for its fun-filled, audience engaging concerts.
VIKES BAND
Vikes Band is the in-house spirit band for UVic athletic events including Vikes men's and women's basketball games. The instrumental group provides a fun, engaging, and energetic atmosphere at sporting events.
UVIC JAZZ & CREATIVE MUSIC ENSEMBLE
Open to students from all UVic faculties and departments, the Jazz and Creative Music Ensemble performs jazz standards, new arrangements and improvisation. Previous jazz experience not necessary but an audition is required.
SONIC LAB
Sonic Lab is UVic's contemporary and experimental music ensemble devoted to the performance of music of our time.
