UVic Alerts & SafetyApp
Communicating during an emergency
In an emergency, knowing where to find fast, accurate information is essential.
You can stay informed through these official channels:
- UVic website: the primary source for campus-wide information and instructions.
- UVic Alerts: urgent messages that request action or inform that campus is closed. They are usually sent by text, email and/or UVic SafetyApp push notifications.
- Official social media accounts: updates from UVic’s official accounts.
- Digital signage: on-campus displays showing key updates and safety instructions.
UVic Alerts
UVic Alerts is the university’s mass notification system. UVic uses this system to send urgent messages for serious, disruptive events. Messages may include:
- Safety instructions
- Evacuation notices
- Shelter-in-place guidance
- Significant service disruptions
Sign up for text alerts:
- Go to UVic Online Tools.
- Update your profile (under Personal & account profile).
- Add your mobile number and select 'Text message enabled'.
Without current contact information, UVic may not be able to reach you.
Please note:
- Standard message and data rates may apply.
- Message frequency may vary.
- Carriers are not responsible for undelivered messages.
Testing
UVic Alerts undergoes testing usually twice a year. Testing is essential to ensure UVic can provide an effective mass notification system.
