Microsoft 365 Email Quarantine

University Systems is dedicated to improving your email experience. We have important updates to share regarding email security protections for the Microsoft 365 email service.

Why Emails Are Quarantined

Email security protections are in place to prevent spam, phishing, and malicious emails from arriving in UVic email inboxes. Occasionally, emails are quarantined by Microsoft when they pose a potential risk. This includes emails that have risky file types attached, are detected as likely to be phishing, or that are linked to malware.

What’s Changing on October 25

Starting on October 25, when an email is quarantined, you will receive one notification each day listing emails that have been quarantined. This notification will include a link to the Microsoft Defender Quarantine portal, allowing you to take action on quarantined emails.

  • If you believe a legitimate email has been mistakenly quarantined, you can preview it and request its release.
  • You have the option to delete the email if it appears suspicious or block the sender.

We encourage you to regularly review your quarantined emails to avoid missing important messages. See Microsoft 365 email security for more information about email protection at UVic.

If you have any questions about Exchange Online quarantine or require any assistance, please contact your IT support staff or the Computer Help Desk.
