  • Faculty of Law program requirements (JD, JD/JID, JD+MBA, JD+MPA, JD for Civil Law Graduates, Concentration in Environmental Law and Sustainability)

    In addition to completing the requirements for admission, all students are required to register at the times announced by the Faculty of Law. All new students will be informed of the procedures for registration. Course registration for first year is handled by the faculty administration. First-year students are required to attend the opening assembly in September when they will receive their course schedules and other information.

  • PhD Candidacy Exam External Examiners Nomination Form New

    The PhD student must discuss possible dissertation examiners with their supervisor(s) and agree on a list of three nominees. The potential examiner names and contact details must be listed below and submitted to the Graduate Program Coordinator no less than six weeks prior to the proposed exam date.

    The student and supervisor(s) must not approach any of the nominees directly about the dissertation or the student’s program until after the examination process is complete. Our preferred practice is that the examiner be a member of the University of Victoria, Faculty of Graduate Studies and be available on campus at the time of the exam. The examiner may be a member of the Law Faculty but cannot be a member of the student's committee.

  • Leaves of absence and withdrawal

    Leaves of absence are available to students for a variety of reasons or circumstances after completion of a minimum of one term. Normally, tuition fees are not assessed during leaves. While students are on a leave, all supervisory processes are suspended as students are normally expected, and may be required, not to be involved in any academic or research work during the period of the leave.

  • Continuity of registration

    All students admitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies must either register for credit in every term from the time of admission until the requirements of the degree have been met, or register for a personal leave, or formally request a parental or compassionate/medical leave of absence, or formally withdraw in accordance with the regulations.

  • PhD Final Oral Defence External Examiner Nomination Form New

    No later than four weeks prior to submission of the dissertation for examination, all PhD
    candidates must discuss possible dissertation examiners with their supervisory committee
    and agree on a list of three nominees, submitting the potential examiners’ names and
    contact details below. All members of the supervisory committee must sign off on the list.
