In April 2023, Dr. Cindy Holmes, SOCW Assistant Professor, gave a public lecture on campus titled “Around the Table: Dinner Dialogues, Spirituality and Social Justice”, as part of the UVic Centre for the Study of Religion and Society Lecture Series. School of Social Work Assistant Professor Dr. Cindy Holmes has received a Faculty Fellowship with the Centre for the Study of Religion and Society (CSRS) for her new study: Around the Table: Exploring the Relationship between Food, Belonging, Spirituality and Social Justice through Dinner Dialogues.

Reem Girgrah, a MSW student and Sexualized Violence Education and Prevention Officer at UVic’s Equity and Human Rights office, coordinated the event - Walk to end gender-based violence - held on December 6th to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women. Jacquie Green, SOCW Director, was invited as a guest speaker for the event.
