Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Trust provides more than 100 Rhodes Scholarships per year to graduate students from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.  A variety of academic programs are supported including master's, doctoral, and second undergraduate degrees.  The scholarship includes tuition, an annual stipend, a settling in allowance, and transportation to Oxford at the beginning and end of the study program.

Are you eligible?

Applicants must meet the minimum GPA for their chosen program at Oxford.  Applicants have a greater chance of admission to Oxford with a First Class Honours Degree or a minimum GPA of 3.7/4.0 (minimum 8.0 GPA on UVic’s 9.0 scale).  Students must meet additional criteria for age and other factors as set out by the Rhodes Trust.

Rhodes Scholars are selected based on academic excellence, leadership qualities, and other factors.

How to apply

Constituency

Apply to a Rhodes constituency:  a country or geograpic region that administers the scholarship in that area.  Use the Rhodes eligibility checker to identify your constituency, then prepare your application by following instructions in the Rhodes Information for Candidates guide for your constituency.

Students who are connected to one or more constituencies but do not meet the citizenship requirements should explore the option of inter-jurisdictional consideration by contacting the Rhodes Trust for advice well in advance of the application deadline.

Certification or Endorsement letter

Applicants to the Canada and United States constituencies must request a certification (also referred to as an endorsement letter) from UVic.  To request an endorsement:

  1. In your online application, enter fgsgradawards@uvic.ca as the email contact for your endorsement letter.
  2. Email the following application documents to fgsgradawards@uvic.ca by the endorsement deadline for your constituency (see timeline below):
    • personal statement
    • academic statement
    • CV
    • transcripts
