Buy new furniture

We can help you select new furniture for offices, classrooms and other spaces.
We regularly evaluate furnishings, fittings and finishes and their vendors. We select standards that are:
- durable and high quality
- manufactured sustainably
- fire resistant
- compliant with other safety regulations
If none of our standards meet your needs, we'll work with you to find something that does while also meeting UVic's requirements.
Once you’ve made your selection, we’ll arrange the purchase and installation of your new furniture.
Request new furniture
To get information about what's available, get a quote or make a purchase, create a new request using FMIS. In the form, choose:
- Location: the building, floor and room or space you want the furniture to be installed
- Type: Interior Modification Services
- Sub type: Furniture and Appliances - New / Surplus
Costs for new furniture include:
- the retail price of the furniture
- material cost of installation or mounting hardware
- shipping and delivery costs
- labour cost for installation (such as carpentry and painting)
- a 5% service fee
If you have a remote work arrangement (RWA), you may be able to purchase commercial office furniture using pro-D or UVic department funds, at your supervisor's discretion. Use FMIS, as if you were ordering furniture for on-campus use, but use your office or your department's office as the location.

Repurpose used furniture

Our repurposed furniture program allows you to access used furniture at a discount price. All repurposed furniture is in good condition and ready to use. This cost-neutral program promotes sustainability and extends the life of items.

Rent furniture

- Given 5 business days' notice, we'll deliver the furniture during business hours on the day of your choosing.
UVic employees and student groups can rent chairs, tables, and other furniture for university events and functions. Rentals include:
- A rental period of up to 1 week.
- Delivery to a secure, indoor location on the UVic Gordon Head campus during our operating hours.
- Setup before your event and teardown after (for the rented furniture only).
Our furniture inventory is limited. Availability depends on various factors, including other events being held at the same time. If you're planning a large event, get in touch with us early on to get an estimate of how many items we'll be able to provide.

Repair furniture & appliances

We can replace or repair damage to most furnishings, fixtures, fittings, finishes and appliances.
Request furniture or appliance repairs
To request repairs, create a new request using FMIS. In the form, choose:

- Sub type: choose the most relevant option or "Other"

If you no longer need furniture, appliances, or electronics, we can remove it and add it to our surplus inventory so someone else can use it. If it's at the end of its operational life and can't be repurposed, we'll make sure its broken down so it can be recycled with as little waste as possible.
Request furniture disposal
To have surplus furniture removed, create a new request using FMIS. In the form, choose:

To have unusable furniture recycled, create a new request using FMIS. In the form, choose:
- Location: the building, floor and space where the furniture is being stored
- Type: Waste and Recycling
- Sub type: Appliance - Electronics - Furniture Recycling
If you're not sure which to use, don't worry. We always assess whether assets can be repaired or reused before we resell or recycle them.
Move furniture
Depending on your needs, we can either:
- move furniture or other large items (best for simple moves)
- plan and execute an office move (best for complex moves involving entire offices, lab equipment, hazardous materials, or confidential records)
Accessibility
We are always working to improve accessibility at UVic. We:
- provide accessible furniture in classrooms.
- provide employees with electric sit-to-stand desks to test through our loaner program.
- provide employees with office chairs to test through our demo seating program.
Policies
FM5105: Purchasing
Facilities Management is exclusively responsible for purchasing:
- construction and related consultants
- facilities maintenance
- furnishing, fittings and furnishes
- signage (interior and exterior)
Purchasing Services will not approve requisitions for these goods and services from other departments. Purchases made with personal funds won't be reimbursed.
BP3130: Furnishings, fittings, finishes and artwork
Facilities Management evaluates furnishings, fittings and finishes and their vendors to select standard and custom products that are:
- durable and high quality
- manufactured sustainably
- fire resistant and compliant with other safety regulations
Furnishings that haven't been approved by Facilities Management may be removed or discarded at the owner's expense.
