The Faculty of Education Travel Grant supports faculty members in our faculty to travel to conferences and/or research events to enhance their research projects.

Eligibility:

• Applicants must be tenure-track or tenured faculty
• Grants of up to $1000 (domestic)
• Grants of up to $1250 (international)

Important dates:
Applications may be submitted at any time; however, funds will be dispensed on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants are eligible to apply once per academic year, July 1 - June 30. Events must be completed within one year of receiving the award.

Each year, the Shaw & Gaines Endowment Fund invests in Faculty of Education research that connects classrooms, communities, and the planet. Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, projects span climate and science education, environmental issues, Indigenous education, and innovative approaches to learning. Annual intake for this award takes place in April.

• Grants of up to $1000 are available to faculty members in the Faculty of Education at UVic.
• Applicants must demonstrate at least one of the following forms of engagement: cross-unit (e.g., EPLS and IED), cross-faculty and/or external community engagement.
• Priority will be given to requests for matching funds for external funding competitions that require or expect these contributions, such as SSHRC Connection Grants and SSHRC Partnership-stream Grants.

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is the federal research funding agency that promotes and supports research and research training in the humanities and social sciences.

The New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) supports world-leading interdisciplinary, international, high-risk / high-reward, transformative and rapid-response Canadian-led research.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is Canada's federal funding agency for health research. Composed of 13 Institutes, they collaborate with partners and researchers to support the discoveries and innovations that improve our health and strengthen our health care system.

Destination Horizon Grants support researchers to build capacity, foster existing partnerships, and develop networks with European Union (EU) and other associated countries’ researchers, with the ultimate goal of applying to Horizon Europe—Pillar II calls for proposals.

Vancouver Foundation helps build a stronger, more equitable British Columbia. They connect donors with charities to support local solutions and opportunities.

The Victoria Foundation Community Grants Program supports Capitol region organizations that are tackling complex issues across a range of cause areas.

The Spencer Foundation supports education research through a range of grants, fellowships, and research programs.

Research Grants on Education (small): Supports research into any topic related to education.

• $50,000 USD/ ~$70,000 CAD
• 1-5 years

Research-Practice Partnerships: Supports education research carried out in a partnership format.

• $400,000 USD/ ~$560,000 CAD
• 1-3 years

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Canada Postdoctoral Research Award supports outstanding post-doctoral researchers in developing their research skills and provides the funding and flexibility needed to support their contributions to building Canada’s prosperity and competitiveness.

• Category: Award Recipient. No contribution from UVic; award is won independently.
• $70,000 for 2 years.

The MITACS Accelerate Program creates collaborations that partner for-profit and not-for-profit organizations with Canada’s brightest academic minds. Post-doctoral researchers work collaboratively with their academic supervisor and partner organization on a research project.

• Category: Award Recipient. Required contribution from industry partner of $10,000 per internship (4 or 6 months) which results in a $20,000 CAD research award (can be extended).

The UVic Aspiration Post-doctoral Fellowships provide two years of critical salary support and research training.

• Category: Internal. Minimum of $60,000 per year, with $30,000 in salary support provided by OVPRI and the rest provided by the faculty supervisor(s).
