Technician service
We provide warranty and out-of-warranty service for standard Dell computers (those purchased through the Microserve eStore) and Macs. Warranty repairs are done on campus by certified technicians, employed by UVic, for more convenient and secure services. We can also order replacement parts.
We may be able to repair other UVic-owned electronics like AV equipment and monitors, depending on the technicians' time and workload.

Initial consultation: We'll spend up to 15 minutes discussing your problem and looking for quick fixes that don't cost you anything. If we can't solve it on the spot, we can usually tell you whether the problem is within the scope of our service and talk about your next steps.
Set up Wi-Fi: We'll configure your device to connect to a UVic wireless network.
Diagnostics and troubleshooting: We'll use diagnostic tools and strategies to diagnose and resolve complicated hardware and software issues.
System rebuild: We'll back up your user data, reset your device to factory standard or erase the drive contents, reinstall your OS and essential software, and restore your user data. This can solve many difficult technical issues and is the most reliable way to remove malware. You'll need to have a working recovery partition on the computer or installation media for your OS.
Software installation and setup: You supply the software, we'll install it.
Data recovery: We'll use data recovery tools to try to restore damaged or deleted data from your computer or mobile storage device. (We aren't able to do this on some computers, including modern Macs, because of their built-in full-disk encryption.)
Hardware installation: We'll install user-serviceable parts you provide and test to make sure it's correctly installed.
We won't:
- do anything that could void your device's warranty if it has one
- do hardware work on parts that aren't user serviceable
- work on hardware that may be hazardous (for example: physical damage that could cause shocks, swollen batteries, liquid damage, spills of organic or unknown substances)
- work on smartphones or tablets
- install pirated software or circumvent copyright controls
- order or provide spare parts
- guarantee a specific price for services that are charged hourly
- guarantee a specific turnaround time in advance
