Meet Eshū Kilgour
About
Hello. My name is Eshū, and I’m the Zen Buddhist Spiritual Care Provider at UVic.
I’ve practised Zen since 1994, and I’m an ordained priest and teacher in the Rinzai tradition, serving as Abbot of the Zenwest Buddhist Society — a sangha that has been established here on Vancouver Island since 1980. Zen is, at heart, a simple practice: meeting this moment — this breath, this body, this life — just as it is.
The most open way to experience Zen practice, and our community, is through our weekly Tuesday Evening Zen Meditation at the Multifaith Centre. It’s free, and open to everyone — whether you’ve sat for years or have never meditated in your life. An evening is unhurried: seated and walking meditation, a little chanting, and a short Dharma talk. You’re welcome exactly as you are, for one evening or for many. No belief, background, or experience is asked of you — only a willingness to sit down and begin.
