About

Hi, I’m Staci (she/her). I’m of West African descent, with roots in Nigeria, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. Since May 2024, I have been a visitor on the traditional territories of the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. Before moving to Victoria, I lived in Los Angeles and Boston, where I completed my Master of Social Work at Boston College.

I joined the UVic community in July 2024 as a Student Support Coordinator in the Office of Student Life, and joined the Counselling team in August 2025, working both as an embedded counsellor in the Faculty of Law and within the Student Wellness Centre.

I have been working in the field of clinical social work for over 12 years. Throughout my career, I have worked in outpatient clinics, correctional facilities, and school-based programs serving adolescents and young adults. Working in these settings has cultivated my understanding of how people navigate adversity, healing, and change, which has contributed to my practice in supporting individuals through life's challenges.

Outside of UVic, some of my greatest joys come from road trips with my partner, spending time with our pets, and being in nature, whether it's cycling, camping or paddleboarding. Nature has always been a grounding place for me and feels most like home.

Counselling approach

My approach to counselling is collaborative, holistic, and strength based. My goal is to offer a space where you can feel safe, heard, and respected, with particular care for students who identify as racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, international, or part of another equity-deserving community. My work is grounded in anti-oppressive, trauma-informed practice that values each person’s story and the systems they’re navigating.

Areas of interest

Some areas I often support students with include depression, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma, substance use, emotional regulation, navigating change and uncertainty, relationship concerns, identity exploration, and experiences related to marginalization, discrimination, and belonging. I am particularly interested in supporting students navigating racial identity, intersecting identities, systemic barriers, and the unique challenges that students may face while studying and living within institutions as racialized students.

I may draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and trauma-focused therapies. Most importantly, I work with you to find an approach that feels supportive, relevant, and effective for your needs and experiences.
