Social Justice Studies

We offer 2 interdisciplinary social justice studies (SJS) undergraduate programs: a minor/general and a diploma. Our programs will allow you to wrestle with questions relating to:
- wealth inequality globally
- racism and its institutionalization
- domestic violence
- labour rights and conditions
- migration and contemporary refugee and asylum debates
- ecological degradation and environmental justice
Minor/general
These interdisciplinary programs are offered by the Department of Sociology.
The minor degree is intended for students studying toward a major in the field of their choice.
The general degree pairs the SJS minor with an additional minor, resulting in the completion of a general degree.
Your academic advisor can help you plan your courses to ensure you meet the requirements of both your major and minor programs.
Program requirements
The interdisciplinary minor requires 12 units of coursework. You’ll take SJS100, SJS300, SJS400 and either CE300 or an approved elective. The remaining 4.5 units can be selected from approved electives.
Diploma
The interdisciplinary diploma program in Social Justice Studies is offered by the Department of Sociology in partnership with the Division of Continuing Studies.
The program requires a total of 15 units of coursework. It can be taken as a stand-alone credential, or as a concurrent credential with a certificate or degree program.
