Guujaaw - a discussion about lessons from Haida Gwaii
The School of Environmental Studies invites you to a discussion about lessons from Haida Gwaii with Guujaaw.
Tuesday, March 31, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., David Turping Building, room B255.
Guujaaw was president of the Haida Nation from 2000 to 2012, and has been at the forefront of numerous battles to protect the land and waters of Haida Gwaii. His council filed one of the first Aboriginal Title cases, and advanced Aboriginal Law with its landmark 2004 legal victory on the Crown’s duty to consult and accommodate First Nations. A gifted carver, traditional singer, performer, medicinal practitioner and astute political leader, Guujaaw continues to dedicate much of his life to preserving the land and culture of Haida Gwaii.
