Camino de Georgia, Aug. 22-24

Join in on the Camino de Georgia, Aug. 22-24

In the spirit of the Camino de Santiago this is a contemplative walk (and paddle and shuttle) from Victoria to Duncan over three days.  The walk is to celebrate the life and spirit of Georgia Klap and to raise money for the Georgia Klap Memorial Fund.  The details are still being worked out but tentatively we will begin our journey at Beaver Lake Regional Park in Saanich and end at Alderlea Farm, just southwest of Duncan.  Highlights along the way include visits to local farms, a paddle across Saanich Inlet (weather dependant), a stop at the Kinsol Trestle, and camping in the hills high above the Cowichan Valley.

On the last day, August 24, starting at 2:00 PM there will be a Camino Completion Party at Alderlea Farm with local food, music, and a silent auction!  We are seeking pledges, in any amount, to be donated to the Georgia Klap Memorial Fund, a fund set up in Georgia’s name to support students in Environmental Studies or Geography who wish to study in the field and pursue experiential education opportunities.

We are looking for people who want to walk/paddle, for part or all of the way, and for people to help shuttle participants, food and camping gear, and contribute their time and energy in support of the walkers.  To volunteer or to participate contact Sam Klap at 250-891-5354 or email Dr. Brenda Beckwith .

See the Honouring the Life of Georgia Klap Facebook page or the Georgia Klap Memorial Fund page to learn more about Georgia and the event.

Join us on the journey!
