Research awards
Undergraduate
Research can be an important and enjoyable part of the undergraduate experience and it can help you decide whether to pursue research as a career. The awards below provide monetary support to engage in a research experience, here at UVic or internationally, and to share that research by presenting at a conference.
The Boehm Family Award for Undergraduate Travel awards up to $400 to support undergraduate science student participation in academic or professional conferences outside of the Capital Region District. The funds can be used to offset the costs of registration, travel and accommodation. Students must be presenting at the conference.
Applicants can apply at any time throughout the year. Acceptance of applications for a given year will open on January 1 and will end when the funds have been spent for that year. Normally, a given conference will be eligible for only one award per year.
Self-identified Indigenous students are invited to apply for an exciting opportunity to get research experience in plant science at the Centre for Forest Biology. The position will involve field studies and/or lab studies. The assistantship provides full-time work during the summer term (typically 15 weeks)
One research position is available every summer to an Indigenous student currently registered at the University of Victoria and studying for a Bachelor of Science.

Academic awards
Departmental awards
By declaring your major, you become eligible for departmental scholarships and bursaries. The majority of departmental awards do not require an application, but are assigned on the basis of merit or a departmental nomination. To learn more about departmental awards, visit the Office of the Registrar.
Dean's List
The Faculty of Science Dean's List recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of undergraduate students in Science. Students who rank in the top 10% of students (based on GPA) in one of three categories—first-year, in-program or graduating—will be named to the Dean's List. The list is produced annually, typically in late summer.
Scholarships & bursaries
UVic offers many different scholarships, awards and bursaries to help support students with the expenses involved with attending university.
Scholarships and awards are non-repayable and are awarded to students primarily on the basis of academic merit. Entrance scholarships and awards are available to students who have not yet started their studies, while in-course scholarships and awards are available to students who attended UVic during the regular winter session. The majority of scholarships and awards do not require an application, although some do.
A bursary is a non-repayable monetary award that aims to cover some of the financial need not met by Canadian government student loans and grants, and other sources of funding.
Tuition & fees
Tuition is typically a primary expense for students. To learn more about UVic tuition & fees, including associated costs and how to pay, visit the undergraduate tuition calculator or the graduate tuition calculator.
