Undergraduate Student Research Awards
There are a number of programs that provide funds to allow undergraduate students the opportunity to engage in research through which they benefit greatly from their experience under the supervison and mentorship of faculty members.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) funds a number of Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) each year.
The Faculty of Science at the University of Victoria funds both Science Undergraduate Research Awards (SURA) and Science Emerging Research Awards (SERA).
The University of Victoria Vice-President Academic and Provost also sponsors undergraduate research through the Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Awards (JCURA).
Dr. Valerie Kuehne, former VP Academic and Provost (2014-2022), sponsors undergraduate research through the Valerie Kuehne Undergraduate Research Awards (VKURA)
The Undergraduate Research Position Planner is a tool designed to help facilitate an initial conversation between undergraduate researchers and their potential or confirmed faculty supervisors. Students may use this planner to gain greater clarity on details such as the nature of the role, expectations, time commitments, communication, and other key aspects of the experience.
