Course materials & copyright
Course materials
Our subject librarians can help you find relevant course materials. They can help by:
- conducting literature searches to provide current bibliographies on course topics
- finding copies of materials from UVic Libraries or from other libraries
- updating reading lists and advising on the availability of class materials
- organizing supplemental reading materials requested by students
We can also help you in using or creating open educational resources (OERs).
Copyright
We can help you follow copyright law in your instruction. Browse our copyright resources or contact copyright@uvic.ca for more support.
Course reserves
We can help you place materials on course reserves in Brightspace. Building your reading list using library-licensed articles and ebooks:
- increases convenience for students
- lowers costs for students
- ensures all PDFs are accessible for students with disabilities
We can also put physical items on reserve if needed.
Contact reserves@uvic.ca if you have questions or take one of our drop-in course reserves workshops.
Video booking
We subscribe to several video streaming services with academic and educational content. You can use this content in your classes. Make sure you follow copyright guidance on showing films in class.
Can't find what you need through a streaming platform?
- request a DVD or VHS from our collection through the Faculty ReQuest service
- request a streaming copy of a DVD or VHS from our collection – contact Bill Blair, Fine Arts Librarian.
Support for class projects
UVic Libraries supports hands-on learning and opportunities for students to showcase their work.
Students can create digital portfolios and other creative projects with our digital exhibition platform, Omeka-S. They can also create physical materials in our Book Arts Lab using our printing and bookbinding equipment.
We can work with you to offer training and opportunities for your students to share their work.
Information literacy toolkits
Our librarians have created comprehensive guides on information literacy topics. You can use these materials in your courses:
Generative AI topics
UVic Libraries is actively engaged in learning about Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools. Are you thinking about integrating GenAI topics and assignments into your teaching? We can help.
We offer short, downloadable PowerPoint modules on topics like AI basics, AI ethics and safety, citing AI and AI terminology. You can include these modules in Brightspace courses, deliver them yourself, ask students to review them independently or invite a librarian to present them to your class.
Your subject liaison librarian can help you explore AI-literate research assignments for your students.
