Connect from off-campus

All current UVic students, faculty and staff can connect to UVic resources from off-campus. We subscribe to many web-based resources (databases, journals, ebooks, etc.) that can be accessed with a NetLink ID and password. Any device that is not connected to the UVic Campus Network is considered off-campus.

Getting connected

Most of our resources are available off-campus through EZProxy, a program that helps UVic members access our licensed resources.

EZProxy works using your NetLink ID and password. To access resources when off campus, always go through Library Search or our library databases. When connecting, you will be prompted to log in with your NetLink ID and password.

If you find a book or article through your browser, you may be prompted to pay for access. Try searching for the item in Library Search instead to connect through UVic.

Alumni & community

We purchase database access on a subscription basis. We need to follow strict licensing agreements. These agreements define how alumni and community members can access the databases.

  • alumni with an active Netink ID have access to selected databases from off-campus
  • community members can access some databases and web-based resources on campus

All types of borrowers can use open access resources from anywhere.

Open access resources

Don’t have a Netlink ID? Don’t worry! More and more scholarly research is being published open access, meaning that anybody can read it without a subscription.

To get started finding open access resources, use Library Search. On the results page, select Availability > “Open Access” in the left-hand menu. This will limit your search to resources that are available to the general public.
