Support us
Thank you for considering a gift to the UVic Libraries. Your philanthropic support will enrich the lives of students, faculty and researchers.
Every gift is important to us. We can only achieve our mission of excellence in teaching and research with the help of many caring friends and supporters.
What will your donation do?
Your donation will help us meet the shifting landscape of 21st century learning and research. When you decide to donate to UVic Libraries, you can choose which priority your donation supports.
Student scholarships & fellowships
Library awards help our students reach their full potential. Join us in recognizing their academic excellence, achievement and leadership. Some awards focus on the use of particular collections or the creation of particular outputs.
Digital initiatives
Countless stories of local and international research value might have been lost without UVic's efforts to collect and share them. Through our digital initiatives we provide global public access to knowledge.
Special Collections & University Archives
UVic Libraries has a wide range of internationally important collections. Our donors are critical in building these unique collections.
Library enrichment
Support the highest priority needs for UVic Libraries, as identified by the University Librarian.
University Art Collections
University Art Collections activate object-based teaching, research activities and exhibitions both on and off campus. Donors support the ongoing development of our collections. Donations also allow us to pursue special projects that promote engagement and access to collections.
Named funds
Establishing a fund is a fantastic way to support what you hold most dear. You can choose to help a student, support a specific academic discipline, help advance a digital initiative or support another meaningful cause.
With a named fund, you can create a legacy in your name, honour the memory of a loved one or pay tribute to family members, colleagues or friends.
Ways to give
There are many ways to support UVic Libraries. We are pleased to provide a tax receipt for any financial gift.
Donations can be made directly through our online donation form.
Establish a fund
Major donations often take the form of an annual fund or endowed fund.
Annual fund
Annual funds provide predictable yearly support to the cause you care about for a fixed period of time.
With a donation of $1,000 or more per year, for a minimum 3-year commitment, you can establish a named annual fund. Please contact the University Librarian's Office (ulo@uvic.ca) to discuss what you'd like to achieve with an annual fund.
Endowed fund
Endowed funds are large, transformative gifts with a minimum threshold of $25,000. Endowing your donation allows you to have a long-term impact that will benefit UVic Libraries far into the future.
Endowed gifts are invested by the University of Victoria Foundation to create a steady income stream. The investment pays out a yearly amount while the principal continues to grow.
Endowed funds may be named to honour a person, family or organization. Please contact the University Librarian's Office (ulo@uvic.ca) to discuss what you'd like to achieve with an endowed fund.
Make a planned gift
Behind every legacy gift to UVic Libraries is a unique individual or family with the desire to make a difference and the vision to reach into the future. You can plan your own gift by:
- donating publicly traded securities
- designating UVic Libraries as a beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF
- including a clause in your will and establishing a library fund in your name, or the name of a loved one, to support any kind of library resource you wish
Contact Development Officer Laura Milligan (lauramilligan@uvic.ca) to discuss a planned gift.
Material donations (“Gifts in kind”)
UVic Libraries no longer accepts donations of books, journals or multimedia items to the general circulating collection (Mearns - McPherson Library and Diana M. Priestly Library).
Special Collections & University Archives and the University Art Collections still welcome donations that fit their mandates.
- the University Archives acquires the records (both analogue and digital) of UVic faculty members who have made a significant contribution to their academic field
- Special Collections may consider personal library materials for inclusion in the rare books, maps and periodicals holdings
To discuss a potential donation to Special Collections & University Archives, please contact Jane Morrison, Associate University Archivist.
